installed on Win7, 64-bit, can't launch

Hi Friends,
I have Alchemy successfully running on a WinXP desktop. I've just downloaded and tried to install on Win7, 64-bit (laptop), but it won't launch. I thought I would uninstall and try again, but Alchemy does not appear in Programs and Features, which is how I usually uninstall things. I also don't see any Uninstall in the Alchemy directory.

I saw in the ReadMe where it won't launch if you use any unusual characters in the folder name or username. But neither is the case here.

Any ideas what the problem might be, or what I could do to make it run?

I forgot to say that I also tried Run as Admin. But still won't launch.

How can I uninstall and try again?

That's too bad, because I was really looking forward to using Alchemy on this computer

For whatever it's worth, I wanted say that I just deleted the files from my first attempt. I have no idea if that was the proper way to handle it. Then I downloaded a fresh copy, and installed it following the instructions in the PDF Help. Still won't launch.

Then I tried to Run in Compatibility mode for WinXP, but still won't launch.

I'd appreciate any help or comments

Thanks for posting this issue and doing some testing. Have you tried the swatch/undo windows builds?(link in sig, win_public folder)

I run linux, so the only alchemy that i have tested on 64-bit windows 7 is when i have compiled the current svn on my 64bit/win7 laptop to make the swatch/undo windows builds, and that seemed to work fine...

Um, no, I haven't tried it.
Unfortunately, I don't have enough technical knowledge about Alchemy, to know what a "swatch/undo Windows build" is. Where would I have heard about it? Why or how might it solve this problem?

I'll visit the link you provided and try to learn more about it.

Ok yeah, that's only a file. I'd like to know more about what it is, and why it might solve this problem, before I try installing it.

I do know that I don't know how to compile....not even sure what a "svn" is

sorry i didnt explain better...

i have been adding a bunch of features to alchemy. every so often i make the updates available on that download page. so basically the "swatch/undo build" is just a new testing version of alchemy, with some (so far non-critical) bugs. you should just have to extract the archive (zip for windows) and run the program. The reason that i wonder if it will work is because i built and ran it without issues on a 64-bit windows 7 system... though i have not tested that nearly as thoroughly as the linux platform that i generally work on. hope that helps.

Before I post though, I'm curious. Have there been no other reports of Alchemy not launching on Windows 7 and/or 64-bit?
