A new version of Alchemy, Alpha 007, has been released! Download it here.

Over the last several months there has been a growing interest in Alchemy and we hope this new version will give our ever expanding audience some fun new stuff to play with.

Alchemy now supports pen tablets with a new module called 'Pressure Shapes' that allows you to draw more gestural lines. Also new is the Gradient module which applies automatic colour gradation as you draw. This release has also given the interface a much needed tidy up!

Looking forward to hearing what you all think!

edit: nevermind. would be better if you packaged it in a .tar.gz or a .tar.bz2 instead, that would keep the "Alchemy" script executable :)

Thanks for the update! Should I remove all elements of the previous version before this one? Thank you again.

Is anyone else having problems with getting the new version to work? Every time I try to extract the files it keeps on saying it's corrupted and only the libs, modules and shapes are being extracted.

I also tried with when completely removing the previous version and it's still giving me the same issues.

export produces blank or corrupt pdfs if there're gradient effects in the picture, and export to jpeg/png exports the image with all transparency removed from the gradients for me - running on vista

I'm running on Vista too, and I tried installing it just now. It extracted fine, but when I try to run the program, all that happens is the little circle logo by the cursor went round for a second, then nothing else happens! I opened Task Manager to see if it was running at all, or even loading, and nothing showed up. Same happens when I try running it as Administrator, when I put it in compatibility mode for XP SP2 and when I restarted my computer.
I've been having problems installing Alchemy recently, for both 005 and 006, so it might just be a quirk on my laptop, but it's interesting to see (and rather comforting) that I'm not the only one!
Many thanks to Karl DD for working on this release and for helping earlier in the week; sorry it hasn't worked!

Did you overwrite the previous build? try installing in a fresh directory or at least removing the lib and modules folders, wouldn't start for me installed over the old build because of that.

Hi Karl,

I'm also getting corrupt PDFs when using gradients, as well as when using switch vector to Illustrator CS2. I'm using 64 bit Vista Ultimate.

Export to JPG and switch bitmap work perfectly. The pressure sensitivity is working perfectly for me, and also, thanks for adding a hotkey for the eyedropper. :-)

Also, I'm not sure if it was a bug or a feature, but somehow I've created a little palette square like the ones in the color picker that changes my color when clicking on it that floats on the canvas. I haven't been able to figure out how to create/move/remove it, but it seemed like a handy way to do a custom palette if it's intentional. Here's a screenshot-

Thanks tehmeh! Every time I uninstalled Alchemy I made sure I deleted all the old files and created a new folder each time, as well as restarting. Is there anything else I need to do?
