I'm no programmer by any means, but I do think It should be possible to have the edges and directionality of a shape inform the computer to add in contour lines (of a contrasting color/value) to the interior space of a shape. These contours could have their own variables like grid spacing and whatnot. This could be a valuable tool in determining the design of a ship's hull, a character's armor, or the ripples of creature's muscles.
