Options for Pull Shapes

Postby sandman on Wed, 31 Dec 2008 10:10:28 GMT

There are a couple of features I would find very useful when working with Pull Shapes;

1. To be able to select more than 1, but less than All the Shapes folders from the Pull Shapes folder dropdown menu.

2. When using Random Scaling in combination with Pull Shapes, I would like the ability to limit the maximum size of any rendered shape, possibly by a slider.

i was thinking this also, and i believe the solution might be to add a 'number of folders in use' tab and the dropdown selection list have all the folders in use highlighted, so that if you're using the max number you've allowed and wanted to switch folders you could just pick a new one and one of the old ones would be de-selected. the only problem would be figuring out how alchemy would de-select one folder for the other. it would have to be something you could quickly assign and make work the way you want without breaking the flow of your painting. anyway, that's my input :B

Looking at this again, it is possible to have more than one pdf in a single shapes folder, so a workaround is to manually configure custom folders containing the mix of pdf file shapes you require, by making copies of the original pdf documents and adding the copies to a new folder within the main shapes folder. On the Mac, I tried to do this using aliases to the original files, but no joy (the pdf file sizes are not huge though, so duplicates are not such an issue).

One very minor issue occurs if you manually move pdfs to the currently selected Pull Shapes folder whilst Alchemy is still open, then click the Refresh button. The Pull Shapes selection reverts to All Shapes, and the previous folder has to be re-selected from the dropdown menu. I would love to be able to limit the maximum random scaling size, as sometimes a single shape can fill most of the canvas.

Happy New Year by the way :)

Thanks for the comments.

Definitely aware that pull shapes is pretty raw.
Having more control over the size etc is definitely something we intend to do.
But the main issue is sorting out the interface so it can accommodate a whole bunch more options like this. Right now it is a mess :(
We have however had some good ideas for how to do this which will be implemented at some stage soon.
