Splatter-creator slowness after using a few minutes

Postby tbnylk on Thu, 14 Jan 2010 13:04:30 GMT

Hi,
First of all, I love the new splatter module. But sadly after only 2 minutes or so. constantly using it to draw, It becomes exponentially slower, up to the point that the whole program doesnt react anymore. Even after stopping using the module, Alchemy remains slow.
I am not sure how it's caused. It's not a memory leak as far as I can tell. The CPU is being used 100% though.

If you bump up the number of drips and turn on mirroring, Splatter will slow down a whole lot (in my experience).
This is a memory issue, so we need to look at ways to improve this code.

Does that sound like the behavior you are experiencing?
Do you get any error output from the Console?

I was using Splatter without mirroring and the default drip configs (50,10). Also as I said, I was not experiencing extreme memory usage. So i dunno.

Actually I'm having an issue with it as well. I can draw with it, but it makes these faint lines as if it is getting the coordinates for the vector, but then it doesn't create the splatter in its place. If I keep on drawing with it, it will hang the program.

Has anything new surfaced in this area? I use Alchemy in a live setting while performing music as well, and I'm really fond of the splatter. I do find that it doesn't take long at all for it to hit 100% cpu usage and kill the program.

Thanks

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to pipe up and say that I'm finding a very similar thing with the splatter, with an extra oddness.
It seems that when I try and paint with splatter, and the Affect Colour Switcher, I get to around 50 strokes and the colour is then switched for each stroke afterward. The stokes before seem to be fine. Then if I turn of the Affect, and switch to another type of stroke, things seem to work, but if I turn back on Affect Colour Switcher, even the new strokes from the different Create module change with each consecutive stoke.

You can repeat this on a mac with Snow Leopard by:
New scene
Set Splatter Create
Set Colour Switcher
Paint
After approximately 50 strokes the colours should start to stick to all future strokes.
Try changing Create and Affect modules, but you'll see if you return to Colour Switcher the problem persists.

Thanks. Awesome software by the way :)
