PDF does not conform to Adobe's published PDF specification

Postby hellocatfood on Mon, 31 Aug 2009 18:57:54 GMT

I was using imagemagick on Ubuntu 9.04 to convert an Alchemy-created pdf to images and got this error from the terminal
Code: Select all
**** Warning:  File has an invalid xref entry:  1.  Rebuilding xref table.

**** This file had errors that were repaired or ignored.
**** The file was produced by:
   **** >>>> iText 2.1.5 (by lowagie.com) <<<<
**** Please notify the author of the software that produced this
**** file that it does not conform to Adobe's published PDF
   **** specification.

convert: unrecognized units type `PixelPerInch' @ wand/convert.c/ConvertImageCommand/2577.

Imagemagick then failed to convert the pdf to images

Yeah there were some problems working in transparent gradients using the iText library... it ain't perfect but it seems to work for the most part. I tried a lot of things to get it working this good so am at a bit of a loss as to how to make it compliant :(

No to hijack this thread but i got a similar problem when exporting a PDF with gradient in it.
As soon as i open it in Illustrator i got an "Error in Shading dictionnary" might it be related and is there a solution or workaround for that?
The only solution wich isn't really one is to export it in PNG with transparency.

All I can add is that the next version will support SVG export.

Yay, that's great news.

Btw, in case you wanna try it, you can export the pages of your alchemy-created pdf using imagemagick by using the command:
Code: Select all
convert Alchemy-created-pdf.pdf output.jpg

And then you can convert that into a small animation. Click here for an example.

The PDF export hasn't been touched with this release actually, only the PDF export library was updated.
So that seems to have fixed something :)
It still returns the "An unknown shading type was encountered." error for me with Illustrator CS3, but at least it opens!
If you don't use the Gradient module, then everything will work fine.

hellocatfood,
Thanks for the tip!
Creating an image sequence is definitely some functionality we would like to implement in the future.

Gradients don't seem to export for me when using PDF but when I export directly to SVG the gradients display when opening it in Inkscape. Gradients not showing up in PDF's could just be 'cause of my viewer (evince on Ubuntu 9.10). Do they work for anybody else?
