007 doesn't launch

Postby Captain_404 on Sun, 12 Apr 2009 00:59:17 GMT

I downloaded 007 recently and it doesn't launch at all for me, I had previously installed 006 which worked absolutely fine.

I double click the program, the 'loading' mouse appears for a bit, then nothing else happens.

I'm using Windows XP.

Can you download the Debug version: http://al.chemy.org/files/Alchemy-007-Debug.zip
And try and see if the console gives you any output?

Also make sure you delete 006 and copy the whole 007 folder across.

Hm, well, this is interesting.

When trying to unRar the debug version, thus replacing the old version, it brings up the error message:

"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process." Along with "Cannot create the file." messages for nearly every item in the folder.

I assume this would mean that the program is actually running to some extent, but it doesn't appear in the list of programs running under ctrl+alt+del and has no visible presence on my computer still. I'm assuming it's still running from the last time I tried to launch it.

I'll log off and back on to shut it down and try to get the debug running.

Ok, here's a basic run-down of the log, I've got the entire thing screenshotted, so if you'd like to see that I could email it to you, but it's not really something I want to post on the web.

Anyway:

1x...INFO: got SAX parser factory
1x...INFO: configured, stopOnError=false, isValidating=true
18x..WARNING: ignoring duplicated manifest
1x...plug-in and fragment descriptors registered - 21
9x...plug-in started

on the last "plug-in started" it says something about a null pointer exception and- actually, I'll just post that bit of the screenshot.

Thanks for that.

Is this the default install with all the modules 'as is' in the modules folder?
Do you have any non standard characters in the path to Alchemy? Eg a folder called "Graph!c$" or a strange user name?

I simply replaced the previous build's folder with this one, so I'd assume everything is "as is", unless I misunderstand you?

There are no non-standard characters, it's boring as can be!

Until I get a bit of time to check into that error, why not try download the linux version and copy the Alchemy.jar into the Alchemy folder then try and run that?
It might very well do the same thing but worth a try.

Yeah, it doesn't seem to have any effect.

Ok, hold tight.
I hope to get on to this in the weekend.

I have exactly the same issue on vista x64. I launch alchemy but nothing shows up on screen. But there is an alchemy process running in the task manager. It just doesn't show. The debug works fine.
