Alchemy running, but not displayed?

Postby erik! on Tue, 17 Mar 2009 07:34:02 GMT

I've downloaded and installed Alchemy along with the latest version of Java. When I open Alchemy, nothing shows up. Task Manager says it's running, but I see nothing, no Alchemy window.

Windows XP 32bit
Java Ver: 1.6.0_12

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi,

Can you download this debug version and let me know if you see anything suspicious in the console window that pops up:
http://al.chemy.org/files/Alchemy-006-Debug.zip

It will say a lot of junk about plugins starting, then end with "Number of Plugins: 18".
I imagine somewhere in there it will throw up an error.

Thanks!

Here's a screenshot of the console. Is it supposed to close a split second after it shows up?
I see everyone sketching in Alchemy for the Dominance War and I feel left out :(
Thanks again!

Thanks for that!
I can take a look at that error hopefully in the weekend.
The console closes quickly because it is crashing :)

This is a slightly newer version (and possibly buggy) but give it a try:
http://al.chemy.org/files/Alchemy-007-Pre.zip

The error was apparently caused by trying to load the circular image used for the colour picker cursor?!?!
I have fixed it so it will just use the default arrow cursor if there is a problem loading the image file.
But would be interested to see which cursor turns up when you click on the 'Colour' button and move the mouse into the colour picker zone?

Let me know how you go.

Ok that error now is saying it is having trouble 'Publishing the plugins'.
Can you check that the Alchemy folder is intact? i.e. it the modules folder is in the same folder as the .exe?

Hey,

I have a sneaking suspicion that the exclamation mark in your user name is making the program freak out! :o
I've uploaded an updated version here:
http://al.chemy.org/files/Alchemy-007-Pre.zip

Make sure to delete the old Alchemy folder and replace it with this one.
Let me know how you get on.

Well alright then! Seems to be working fine now. I haven't tested all of the setting or saved any sessions, but I can draw! Hope I didn't cause too much trouble, but just enough. ;)
Thanks Karl!
