Java Runtime error

Postby Lord Tim on Sun, 22 Feb 2009 07:42:14 GMT

This may be something wrong with my Java installation, but I don't think it is that, because I just reinstalled the jre, and this error still comes up.

---------------------------
Java Install Required
---------------------------
The registry refers to a nonexistent Java Runtime Environment installation or the runtime is corrupted.

The system cannot find the path specified.

I've got the jre installed. The java directory is in the PATH system variable. I can't see why Alchemy isn't finding Java.

Sorry about that.

Windows Vista 64x
Java version: "Java 6 update 12"
No console information, because it seems that it can't even find java.
Deleting preferences did not help.

Hey,

I just looked up that error and it is sent out by Launch4j, which is the program we use to make an .exe file - basically a wrapper.
I have no idea why it would be coming up with that, but do you have problems with any other Java based apps?

For now, why not try downloading the Linux version 006 and copy the Alchemy.jar file into the windows Alchemy directory. Double-clicking the Alchemy.jar should launch Alchemy without the .exe wrapper.
The .exe wrapper is only really used to make things look a bit more Windows like.

I don't have Vista installed so can't really debug this to well.
Let me know if that works for you.

Huh. That's really strange. The jar file works just fine.

Thanks a lot for your help, this program is really neat.

Actually it might be a bug with Launch4j:
"Fixed critical bug #1925387 64-bit JDK detection problem caused a runtime search error (found by Stivo)."

I have updated to the new version, so hopefully that was the problem and it will be fixed for future releases.
For now there is no difference between using the .jar and .exe.

Have fun!

It sounds like an issue with your Java install.

Do you have any other Java apps working?

I am not sure I understand what you mean here.

To rule out the possibility of a problem with your Java install you should download a Java based application and see if it works or not.

Java 5 is also an old version of Java.
